Historical Overview

The Bennion Family Association of Utah was created in 1922 to strengthen family ties between the descendants of the two Bennion brothers, Samuel and John, who emigrated to Utah in the 1840′s with their young families. This Bennion Family Association of Utah conducted annual family reunions for many years, and published several books relating to the histories of Samuel and John and their first generation descendants.

In 1988 the Executive Committee of the Bennion Family Association of Utah adopted several significant changes:

  1. Changed the name to “Bennion Family Association” in recognition of the worldwide spread of Bennion descendants.
  2. Widened its scope to include the descendants of Samuel and John’s sisters, Mary Bennion Williams and Elizabeth Bennion Davies.
  3. Adopted a new constitution containing revised objectives:
    1. promote genealogical research on our Bennion/Roberts ancestors;
    2. encourage LDS temple work for our Bennion ancestors and their families;
    3. compile and make available personal histories of our Bennion ancestors and their families;
    4. encourage and coordinate the formation of smaller (more manageable) Bennion family organizations at lower levels on the family tree (e.g. grandchildren of Elizabeth, Samuel, John, Mary);
    5. provide a forum for interaction among all living descendants of John Bennion (1786-1846) in order to promote the accomplishment of the above objectives.

Over the past few years it has become increasingly impractical to maintain direct contact with the ever-expanding Bennion family. In 1999 the BFA Executive Committee decided that a website would be the most practical means for accomplishing the Bennion Family Association objectives. We hope that future communications among family members can take advantage of internet and e-mail technology.

So, welcome to the Bennion Family website!
