CONSTITUTION OF THE BENNION FAMILY ASSOCIATION

 

ARTICLE I - NAME. The name of this Association shall be the Bennion Family Association.

ARTICLE II - MEMBERSHIP. Any descendant of John Bennion (1786-1846) and Elizabeth Roberts (1790/91-1830), or anyone who enters this family through marriage or adoption is a member of the Association. The children of John Bennion and Elizabeth Roberts who had posterity are Mary B. Williams (1817-1878), Samuel (1818-1889), John (1820-1877), and Elizabeth B. Davies/Davis (1822-1890).

ARTICLE III - OBJECTIVES. The objectives of this Association shall be to:

1) Promote and coordinate genealogical research of our Bennion ancestors and their families;

2) Encourage temple work for our Bennion ancestors and their families;

3) Compile and make available personal and family histories of our Bennion ancestors and their families;

4) Encourage the formation of and maintain contact with Bennion family groups organized at lower levels of the family tree (e.g. grandparent organizations).

5) Maintain contact with all living descendants of John Bennion (1786-1846), to encourage participation in the achievement of the above objectives.

ARTICLE IV - OFFICERS.

Section A - Executive Committee. The officers of this Association shall be a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Computer Coordinator, Genealogy Research Coordinator, and Family History Coordinator. These officers constitute the Executive Committee of the Association.

Section B - Election Procedures. Elections will be held during the summer of each even-numbered year. Nominations for any officer position made be made by any Association member at any time by writing to the Executive Committee. Any person nominated should indicate his/her willingness to serve prior to nomination. The Executive Committee will prepare a slate of candidates and conduct an election by mail, with the outcome determined by majority vote. Between the biennial elections, vacancies in the Executive Committee shall be filled by majority vote of the remaining officers.

Section C - Terms of Office. The term of office for each officer shall be two years. At the conclusion of the President's term of office, the Vice President shall automatically become the President. For all other officers, there are no limitations regarding service of multiple or consecutive terms.

Section D - Duties of Officers.

President -- presides at all Association meetings, Executive Committee meetings; has general supervision over the affairs of the Association; coordinates fund raising efforts in behalf of the Association.

Vice President -- performs the duties of the President in his/her absence; assists in conducting the affairs of the Association and the Executive Committee at the discretion of the President.

Secretary -- maintains minutes of all meetings of the Association and the Executive Committe; coordinates the maintenance of minutes from meetings of other committees as appropriate; maintains a record of all official policies and procedures of the Bennion Family Association and the Executive Committee.

Treasurer -- manages the funds and maintains the financial records of the Association; submits financial reports as required by law and as deemed necessary by the Executive Committee; ensures the continuation of the Association's non-profit tax-exempt status.

Computer Coordinator -- maintains a computerized record of the members of the Bennion Family Association, including family relationships and addresses; maintains a liaison with the LDS Church Family History Department regarding computerization of LDS Church records to assure a common direction between the Association's and the LDS Church's computerization projects; coordinates the computerization of Bennion family genealogical records.

Genealogical Research Coordinator -- promotes and coordinates genealogical research regarding the ancestors and descendants of John Bennion and Elizabeth Roberts; promotes efficient genealogical research by minimizing duplicate efforts and maximizing use of available technology.

Family History Coordinator -- promotes and coordinates efforts to locate and publish previously written personal and family histories of our Bennion ancestors; compiles additional histories as appropriate; maintains a liaison with the LDS Church Historical Department regarding access to and contributions to the LDS Church's Historical records.

Executive Committee -- institutes such policies and procedures as it deems appropriate to carry out the objectives of the Association. Such policies and procedures shall be recorded by the Secretary and may be changed by majority vote of the Executive Committee.

General -- Each officer may create sub-committees as appropriate to fulfill his/her duties.

ARTICLE V -- MEETINGS. Meetings of the Executive Committee shall be held as deemed appropriate by the President, but not less frequently than quarterly. Meetings of sub-committees shall be held at the discretion of the sub-committee chairpersons. General Meetings or Reunions of the Bennion Family Association shall be held at the discretion of the Executive Committee.

ARTICLE VI - FUNDS. The Treasurer shall be the custodian of all funds. The Treasurer shall maintain records of all donations and the restricted use of any donations as appropriate. Disbursements from Association funds shall be made only upon the signature of at least two members of the Executive Committee, one of whom is either the Vice President or the President.

ARTICLE VII - AMENDMENTS. This Constitution may be amended at any General Meeting or Reunion of the Bennion Family Association, or via a general mailing to Association members. In either case, a two thirds majority vote is required.
